Nikki Laoye was born in Lagos, Nigeria; she is the only daughter to Prince Olushola Issac (Nikki's father) & Olori Christiana Yetunde Laoye (Nikki's mom). She bears traces of a mixed traces heritage as her father, Olushola is of European (Dutch), Ghananian and Nigerian ancestry.
Nikki has three brothers namely Femi, Bola & Ade. She started her journey into music at the age of five when she joined her church choirs. At that same age, she enrolled into dance classes.
She had her first education at Grace Children School, Gbagada, Lagos. Her teacher who was keen observant about her musical gift and talent hand picked her out of the horde and offered her free piano lessons at the end of each school day.
After graduating from Grace Children School, she went on to school at Federal Government Girl's College, Sagamu. After graduating from there in 1998, she proceeded to the next phase of her education which is the University and earned a degree at the University of Ibadan. While studying at UI, she joined the school choir and also joined a dance groups including Exousia,Soul Alliance and the girl group trio, Soul Sistas.
Shortly after she joined the youth band of Ikoyi Baptist Church where she served as a soloist/led vocalist for a couple of years. She later joined House on the Rock Church and was given the same role for over 10 years.
Nikki Laoye - Musical Career
Nikki Laoye launched her music career professionally as a solo artist in 2006. She released her debut single "Never Felt this way Before", produced by one of the reputable Nigerian music producer Cobhams.
The single enjoyed airplay on mainstream radio stations in Nigeria and gained wide acceptance across the country. In 2008 she went on to release her debut album "Angel 4 Life".
She was one of the first three Nigerian artists ever to be interviewed and recognized on American entertainment channel, BET in 2009 and she was one of the preliminary judges for BET's Sunday Best Auditions which held in Lagos, Nigeria 2009.
She lost her father in year 2011 and was missing in action for about two years as a result of the pain and emotional trauma she went through, she made a come back in 2013. In August 2013, she headlined the Nigerian Corner at the "Nottinghill Carnival" in the United Kingdom.
