Dorothy Peoples, born on August 12, 1950, Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio, United States
Dottie Peoples began singing at an early age. After completing high school, she was given the opportunity to tour with gospel pioneer Dorothy Norwood, a member of The Caravans. From there, Peoples briefly joined a jazz ensemble, performing in various venues across the country. Peoples soon realized that singing secular music was not what she was called to do; she relocated to Atlanta and returned to her gospel roots.
Dottie has an honorary Doctor of Sacred Music from Global Evangelical Christian College (Part of the International Circle of Faith Colleges and Seminaries network). Dottie toured many places with her very dear friend Garnelle Hubbard-Spearman

After 14 years with Church Door, Peoples signed with AIR Records and took her career to another level, earning her first Stellar Award nomination. Her 1994 release on AIR, “On Time God,” was a pivotal release that rocketed to No. 1 on the charts and earned her four Stellar Awards and a nomination for Soul Train’s Lady of Soul Award.
